Kathryn Altus
I noticed the painting “The Lake” (left) at Harris Harvey Gallery in Seattle, and the image stayed with me because I recognized it instantly as Slide Ridge on Lake Chelan. When Kathryn contacted me at the gallery about showing her work, it was an instant “yes, of course!” And I found out that she and her husband vacation at the Kelly’s Resort where my parents stayed, the resort that inspired them to move to Chelan in the first place.
Kathryn Altus Available Works
Kathryn Altus uses the grandeur of the Northwest topography as a point of departure to create abstract landscapes with a palpable sense of near-infinite space. These ethereal works are minimalist in aesthetic and transcend specific locales. Altus’ paintings explore the transition between land, air, and water, as well as the intersection of the natural environment and the marks of human presence within it. We are pleased to have a few of Kathryn’s paintings on display at Chelan Modern.
